Irish born, Tim Donegan has had a passion for wine from an early age. With Francophile parents French wine and cheese were not uncommon in the Donegan household and this experience proved the catalyst for a growing curiosity and appreciation of wine. Tim moved to London in the 80’s and was exposed to both new and old world wines when required to select wines for major sporting and entertainment events as part of his role with a corporate entertainment company.

Tim moved to Australia in the late 90’s and that is where his passion took the next step.  Inspired by friends involved in the industry and his Italian in-laws who made their own rustic wines, Tim embarked on a part-time TAFE course at the Holmesglen Institute in Melbourne.  Study continued over a number of years at Charles Sturt University and culminated in an applied science degree in Wine Growing; a mix of viticulture and winemaking.

The majority of Tim’s industry experience was gained working at Wedgetail Estate in the northern Yarra Valley and Ten Minutes by Tractor on the Mornington Peninsula. Additional experience was gained at Paynes Rise in Seville and more locally as a consultant to The Old Orchard Winery in the City of Knox.

Tim continued to make wine throughout his time at university and beyond. Tim set up Trocchio Wines in response to requests and encouragement from friends and family.
